True believers want others to come to faith in Christ. The problem is we often overlook this simple tool of investing in relationships with other people and inviting them to church to meet Jesus.
When we invite people to our services we are inviting them to the place where the Gospel of Jesus Christ will be preached, where Christian love and community will be displayed, and where the Bible comes to life.
Easter is on April 20th this year. I need your help in making it the best Resurrection Sunday ever at Fort Caroline Baptist Church. This is an awesome opportunity to invite people to one of our three worship services.
Inviting people to meet Jesus is a biblical thing to do and is a powerful way to reach people for Christ.
In John 1:40-42 we read:
Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of these men who heard what John said and then followed Jesus. Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means “Christ”). Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus. Looking intently at Simon, Jesus said, “Your name is Simon, son of John—but you will be called Cephas” (which means “Peter”). John 1:40-42 (NLT)
In the next paragraph, Jesus calls Philip to follow him.
Philip then comes across Nathanael. Philip went to look for Nathanael and told him, “We have found the very person Moses and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.” “Nazareth!” exclaimed Nathanael. “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” “Come and see for yourself,” Philip replied. John 1:45-46 (NLT)
Do you see what happened? Andrew came to Christ, and then he brought Peter to Christ. And the rest is history! Christ changed their lives, and through them, the world!
Andy Stanley said, “You can’t make a person fall in love with Jesus, but you can arrange a date.” Who will you invite to church on Easter? Stop right now and think of three people you can invite. Pray this prayer now:
Jesus, I know you can change the lives of my family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. I know that you have sent me into the world to make disciples. I will obey your call to reach others by investing in their lives as a friend, and I will invite them to church on Easter Sunday so they can meet you thorough the preaching of the Gospel. Jesus, please touch the lives of the people I invite. Do it by your Gospel and for your glory, Amen.
Here are four tools for inviting others to church:
- Invitation Cards: We will have business card-sized invitations for you to use. You can pick them up at church.
- Facebook: Use your Facebook connections to invite your friends. You can also “share” our church’s Facebook status updates related to Easter.
- Your Children: Encourage your children to send hand-made invitations to their friends.
- Your Life Group Ministry Roll: Contact everyone on your list with a personal invitation to your group and worship service. Spend a moment in your group over the next few weeks asking God to bless the people you are inviting.
I am trusting God for the largest Resurrection Sunday in the life of our church! Will you join me?
What other ways can you think of to invite people to church on Easter?
