The Church at Chets Creekis in my neighborhood. I drive past this church every day. I have watched them grow from those early days when they met in the Chets Creek Elementary School with a core of 30 people, to today when they average over 1,500 in worship! (By-the-way, they have outgrown their 48,000 sq. ft. of space and are now in three worship services and back in the elementary school for overflow space! They are now in a building program to make more room for the community.) This church takes twelve mission trips each year as well as impacting Jacksonville through continual ministry involvement. I love and respect their pastor, Spike Hogan. He is a great man of God with a vision to reach the lost in our city. As I prayed for them today I thought about some of the ways they set a great example for our church.
- They are passionate about Jesus and reaching people who are not yet His followers. There is always a sense of excitement in the air when I attend one of their worship services. These folks love Jesus!
- They preach the Word. The messages are biblical and relevant. Chets Creek has demonstrated that you do not have to water-down the message to reach people with the Gospel.
- They have a “what-ever-it-takes” attitude. This church consistently demonstrates that they are willing to change, grow, be inconvenienced, sacrifice, and move out of their comfort zone if it means reaching more people for Jesus. They never change the message, only the methods as necessary.
- They are, “Real, Relevant, Refreshing.” They present the Gospel in a culturally relevant way. Like Jesus, they reach people where they are, they speak their language, and they die to their preferences.
- The music is awesome! They have a great team who leads God’s people into worship through music that is both contemporary and theologically sound.
- They strive for excellence. From the parking attendants, to the nursery workers, to the worship team, everything is done well.
Isn’t it wonderful to have churches like Chets Creek in Jacksonville who are setting a great example of Kingdom growth?
