I sincerely congratulate our new President-Elect, Barak Obama. He has achieved a great victory that should be celebrated by all Americans. Mr. Obama should also be congratulated on being the first African-American President in the history of the United States. This is a marvelous day for which all Americans should be proud. I can only imagine the joy and pride felt by many of our citizens who still remember the ugly days of segregation and discrimination.
I did not vote for Mr. Obama. He and I have fundamental differences about many things, especially the sanctity of human life. However, I commit to pray for my new President as Scripture commands. The Apostle Paul wrote, “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
Righteousness In the Whitehouse
I will ask God to fill our new President with wisdom, righteousness, courage, and protection. I pray that he will lead our nation with dignity, integrity, and compassion. I will ask the Lord to help him protect our nation from enemies who wish to destroy us and who stand against our Christian values. I pray that he will repent of his support for abortion and become a protector of all human life in America, even the unborn. It is my prayer that our new President will always remember the warning of Scripture that, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).
Revival In The Church
I will also ask God to send a revival in the church, “…that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior” (2 Tim. 2:2b-3). I am praying that Christians will seek to lead "quiet and peaceable" lives that are characterized by godliness and the fear of the Lord. May God cultivate within us Christ-like attitudes that overflow into Christ-like actions. May we reverence God more than anything or anyone else in the world. Let us return to our chief aim in life---to glorify God in all things.
Repentance In The World
I am also praying for repentance in the world as believers share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the lost. “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Tim. 2:3-4).
Many Christians are zealous about their particular political party or social-issue. We talk to our friends about politics, we blog about it, we wear political themed T-shirts, and we display bumper-stickers or yard signs. May we become as passionate and vocal about the Gospel as we are about politics! The world does not need another politician or activist. It needs the Savior, Jesus Christ! It is our mission to preach the Gospel to all nations (Matthew 28:18-20). Let the Church do what only the Church can do---preach the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ! May millions repent of their sins and turn to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
God bless America!
